A few days ago we told you everything you can see and do in San Francisco and as is tradition, today we bring you a well-loaded post with a few tips for traveling to San Francisco (and not screw it up). Then don't tell us we don't let you know 😉

Alcatraz is one of the most famous visits in San Francisco and yes, queuing to go to a prison deserves and is very worth it (which does not condemn it)! If you do not want to run out of tickets, be ready and reserve them in advance, you can do it on their official website or by including them in a Spanish city tour.

We believe that moving around San Francisco by car is not usually a great idea. The city is a whole up and down of VERY steep streets, finding parking can be an (almost) impossible mission and we have no time to lose to enjoy the city. Alternatives? Public transport is quite a lot of faults (the subway ticket costs $ 2.75) but there is a pass with the MUNI transport company that costs only $ 5 (toooodo the day, all the buses you want, no cable car!).

Another option. If you travel with more people and want to make a specific journey, use Uber / Lyft. In the United States they work in luxury and in many cases you will spend the same as in public transport. You can open an account with this invitation and get a discount of up to € 20 on your first run.

Eye: we have been informed that lately there are robberies of cars rented and parked in San Francisco. To be sure, better do it in private parking lots or leave nothing of value inside the car.

We were very lucky in our visit: the sun accompanied us and a pleasant temperature, peeeeero San Francisco is famous for its “microclimates” and putting a jacket in your bag or backpack is something you can end up thanking. Also do not trust the good weather: there is a lot of temperature difference from one area to another!

What "in the United States eats badly" is a bullshit. Let's see, it is true that the country has a lot of junk food offer and that it does not have a careful and loving gastronomic tradition like that of other countries, but you will not go hungry or suffer every bite ... especially if you have no problems Budget And as we are talking about San Francisco we have to give you the good news: it is one of those places that claims to have a few local delicacies that will make you fall in love (you have to try the clam chowder! And the Burritos SF's style!).

If you are going to be a few days in the city, it is best to spend a little more budget and stay downtown: there is no point wasting hours going to and from the city when there are many things to see and do. We stayed at HI SF Downtown, a hostel next to Union Square and it went very well! Prices vary according to the type of room (bedroom / double) but calculates about € 35/74.

Here we tell you the best areas to stay in San Francisco and a few interesting options.

Airbnb is usually a good alternative, here we leave you a € 35 discount voucher if you open a new account. And of course, if you want to compare between different options, we recommend the Booking search engine that is the one we usually use.

Ohhhh going to San Francisco without crossing the Golden Gate would be a mistake: the excitement of passing under its orange arches is incalculable and the views of the bay from there are amazing. How to do it? You can do it by walking, by bus, by car or by bike… whatever it is, do it! You will not regret it. If you decide to do it by bike you can find excellent discounts on the Groupon website or in Get your guide, keep reading that we tell you more:

… Look for offers online (not usually very cheap)! If you don't find interesting offers on websites like Groupon, check out here.

... do not stay alone in the city! There are missiles of things to see and do near San Francisco! Our advice is to rent a car (now yes) and tour part of the West Coast. Yosemite, Sequsoia, Death Valley, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon are essential stops!

If you don't want to drive or don't have a license, you can sign up for a tour and get to know some of the most beautiful parks and areas in California and the West Coast. Some examples:

  • Yosemite
  • Muir Woods and California Vineyards
  • Carmel and Monterey
  • Napa and Sonoma Valley

The first time we heard the name POPOS we were left with the face of ehhh what? But as soon as the bus guide explained what they were, buah, we were amazed. These are privately owned places that make their land available for gardens, terraces and public squares! This is great since you will be able to enjoy ideal corners, little known and nothing touristy with all the tranquility. One of the best is the 343 terrace of Sansome Street ... the views from there are WOW!

Bud Light is the Cruzcampo of the United States XD and drink it in San Francisco, cradle of craft beers, it would be like going to the beach of Valencia and eating a frozen paella: horror.

There are many delicious beers but we stayed with the Anchor, a local beer that we found delicious (there are blonde, red and black). Cheers!

Do not commit the great stupidity of going to the United States without travel insurance. The joke can come out very expensive: the country's health system is very expensive and in case (we touch wood) of having to go to the hospital you can leave a pasture. Better to take out insurance from Spain and stay in good hands. We travel with Iati and ta-dan: take 5% discount!

We always recommend using a card when traveling. Both for payments and to get money. It is not very cool to carry large amounts of cash on top, let alone having to change it in destinations whose currency is not €. But watch out for commissions! It is always advisable to carry a special card that you can use abroad and avoid paying these commissions. Here we tell you the solutions to have money abroad.

We carry the Bnext card and the N26 card. Both are free and complement each other perfectly. The first is used for withdrawals (we take one each to double the limits) and the second for payments and if the first fails. It is the best option, word of traveler.
